The Schwarz Excavations Rockhampton Rockets and added another piece to their 2022 roster in the form of Australian Forward, Matt McCarthy. The 6ft 9 in forward agreed to terms with the Rockets and will arrive in Rockhampton after his current season in Portugal concludes. McCarthy adds some further size to the Rockets group and the club is extremely excited in what he can bring to the table in 2022. Neal Tweedy said, “I love the versatility that Matt will add to our group. He has the ability to play inside and out and gives the group some more size which is what we were wanting to address this off season. I’m extremely happy with the roster that we are putting together and can’t wait to get the group on the floor once their current season are complete.”
After a wonderful college career, Matt has been playing in Europe and said it was time to head back to Australia and is happy to have signed with the Rockets for the 2022 NBL1 North season. McCarthy is currently averaging 11 points and 7 rebounds and 2.3 assists for Vitoria SC in Portugal and is going to be in great shape when he arrives in Rockhampton for the 2022 season.
Matt said on signing with the Rockets, “I feel like it’s a great time to come back to Australia and continue to grow my game. With the NBL1 league becoming a national league it gives me the opportunity to compete against some of the best bigs in Australia and guys that are currently playing in the NBL. I can’t wait to get to Rockhampton and be a part of the atmosphere that I have been told about on game nights and do whatever it is Coach Tweedy needs me to do, so that the Rockets can be there come the business end of the season.”
