🏀 Winter Season 2025 – Important Information for Players, Parents & Clubs
We’re excited to kick off the 2025 Winter Basketball Season! As always, our aim is to deliver a fun, competitive, and well-structured season for all teams across all age groups. Below is everything you need to know as we begin the season.
🔥 Super Saturdays Are Back
Due to court unavailability from NBL1 North and CQJBC commitments, we’ve again scheduled some Saturday rounds for Junior age groups. While this is common during Winter, we understand the challenges it can create for families and will continue to review options to reduce the number of Saturdays in future seasons.
Here’s what to expect:
U10 & U12 teams will play on four Saturdays throughout the season.
U14, U16, U18 & U23 teams will each play on two Saturdays.
These changes ensure we can maintain the full 14-round competition structure despite venue limitations. Simplified calendars showing the full season, including Saturday games, are attached to this post and will also be displayed around the stadium to give you plenty of advance notice.
⏱ Game Time Update & Bench Etiquette
To help the flow of back-to-back games, we've extended game times by 5 minutes to allow for a short changeover period between matches. Please be mindful that as soon as your game finishes, you should collect your belongings and clear the bench immediately. This ensures the next teams can step onto the court and start their game without delay.
🔔 Important Reminder: As per the competition rules, games will start at the scheduled time regardless of team readiness. If your team is late or doesn’t have enough players to begin, the clock will still start, and points may be awarded to the opposing team. Punctuality is essential to keep the competition fair and running on time.
📝 Tribunal & Code of Behavior
A reminder that Basketball Queensland continues to oversee all tribunal processes.
We strongly encourage all players, parents, spectators, officials, and coaches to refresh themselves on the Basketball Queensland Codes of Behavior. Respect, sportsmanship, and a positive environment are key to maintaining a great experience for everyone involved in our game.
📅 Junior Draw Release & Grading Rounds
The Junior competition draw will be released in two-week blocks initially. This is to allow clubs and Rockhampton Basketball Inc. (RBI) the flexibility to restructure team gradings where needed after the first rounds. This approach helps us ensure teams are placed at the right level for the remainder of the season.
🏀 Seniors Providing Their Own Referees – Important Reminder
As part of the competition rules, senior teams are responsible for providing referees for scheduled matches. Each team has been allocated refereeing duties throughout the season, typically scheduled immediately before or after one of their own games to make it more convenient.
⚠️ Please note: If your team fails to provide a referee for your assigned game and you have not arranged a replacement, competition points will be deducted. This is to ensure fairness and consistency across the league.
We understand that availability can sometimes be an issue, so if you’re unable to referee, it is your responsibility to organise a suitable replacement from another team or within your club. Communication is key—keep your team and competition coordinators informed to avoid penalties.
Let’s work together to keep the season running smoothly and fairly for everyone!
